Solaris Powerpath Configuration
Hi Guys,
Need to ask a couple of questions

a) From input above, how do i know powerpath is working?
b) Does it mean that disk 2,3 and 4 is actually the same LUN assigned to this server?
c) What is the function of disk 5?

As others have suggested previously,
- Check your zoning
- Check "Connectivity status" in Navisphere manager and ensure that all HBA's are logged-in and registered on the relevant SP's,
- Add/Remove host from the storage group
- Reconfig reboot the host
run the following PowerPath commands when the host comes back up
powercf -q
powermt config
powermt set policy=co dev=all
powermt save
powermt display

this looks like three paths to the same LUN on the CLARiiON, see below for how the paths map to the CLARiiON SP's:
2. c1t5006016841E01644d0
- -> Storage Processor B port 0.
3. c3t5006016141E01644d0
- -> Storage Processor A port 1
4. c3t5006016941E01644d0
- -> Storage Processor B port 1
5. emcpower0a
/pseudo/emcp@0
Disk 5 is the PowerPath pseudo device, you should point all of your applications that wish to access this device to the pseudo device. PowerPath will then take care of the routing of the IO (no matter if a HBA goes down or a SP port goes down the IO will still succeed through one of the other paths)
For a clearer picture of the PowerPath configuration, please post up the output from: powermt display dev=all
this will give you the status of all the paths to that LUN, the LUN details, the LUN WWN, the CLARiiON serial number, the current owning SP etc.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

a) An idea on why are there only 3 paths since 4 fibre ports are added?
b) There's a red F icon on my SP, what does red F means?
c) is there a way to check the uptime of the storage?
Thanks

In Navi Manager, Right click on the array and chose 'Connectivity Status' here you will see a list of HBAs logging into your array. Please make sure there are 4 paths showing here for your Solaris host. If not check the fabric zoning.
b) A Fatal Event icon (red letter "F" in a circle) is displayed. This indicates a fatal hardware event on the array. Please open a case with support. (This may be relating to why you cannot see the 4th path)
c) I'm not too sure what the command is to check uptime. It may be worth asking in the CLARiiON forum... http://forums.emc.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=31

2) How would the configuration look like if there is no PowerPath? If the configuration is same, what is seen on Solaris by typing "format"?
3) Which comes first? Install PowerPath or define configuration in navisphere manager?

It depends on number of zones you are making for each HBA. Dual card has different wwns for each port, and at the switch level it looks like two seperate HBAs.
2) How would the configuration look like if there is no PowerPath?
#format
0. c1t0d0
/pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0,2/LSILogic,sas@2/sd@0,0
1. c1t1d0
/pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0,2/LSILogic,sas@2/sd@1,0
3) Which comes first? Install PowerPath or define configuration in navisphere manager?
It realy depends on your choice, both way is fine.
I would go install the PP first and then have storage side(navi) work later
Remember, Having powerpath and no powerpath has different setting on navisphere

Is it possible for me to use cx3-20 connected to solaris server without installing powerpath? Would it be possible to use any of the LUNs presented without installing any Multipath software whether Powerpath or SUN DMP?
The reason i'm asking this is because i'm seeing this error from Solaris :
This is the error on the non-PowerPath devices.

Yes, but while registering the host to cx-3-30 you need to select failover mode "0".
Would it be possible to use any of the LUNs presented without installing any Multipath software whether Powerpath or SUN DMP?
yes.
for those errors, have a look here

The above issue has been settled by EMC. However i'm facing another problem, i have one sun v240 connected to the same cx3-20f mentioned above. I've downloaded Powerpath for solaris package from powerlink.
I'd install Powerpath without license as i didn't receive the license on time. When i received the license keys 2 weeks ago, I've entered the key but when i run emcpreg -check key command there's an error message stating Key key is invalid and when i run powermt display dev=all command.
This is the output :
KAIPSCPT03:/> powermt display dev=all
Pseudo name=emcpower0a
CLARiiON ID=CK200063200677 [KAIPSCPT03]
Logical device ID=600601607DD01900D41330CFE7ABDD11 [LUN 43]
state=alive; policy=BasicFailover; priority=0; queued-IOs=0
Owner: default=SP B, current=SP B Array failover mode: 1

3072 pci@1,700000/SUNW,qlc@0/fp@0,0 c1t5006016841E01644d0s0 SP B0 active alive 0 0
Any ideas why the policy is set at BasicFailover and there's only one path?
Thanks

Can you run the command
powermt check_registration
[please post up the output, but not the actual key that is reported, mask it out like this xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx]
Sounds like PowerPath didn't like the key provided, do you know if you cut/paste the key in when registering PowerPath or typed it manually? Sometimes cutting/pasting can pick up extra 'invisible' characters...

Basic failover because powerpath seems to be without licensed.
only one path?
1. Double check your zoning.
2. from connectivity status set the failover mode to "0"(until u don't fic license issue). Once you have license for PP you have to change failover mode back to "1".

The output from powermt check_registration command is shown below:
Key XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
Product: PowerPath
Capabilities: All

emcpreg -check XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
(fill in your actual PowerPath license key)
