POWERVAULT 114X, SAS 6Gbps HBA and Hyper-V

We have a POWERVAULT 114X with one LTO-5 drive in it connected on a SAS 6Gbps HBA card installed on a Dell server PE R630 running Windows 2012 R2, Symantec Bacup Exec 15 and Hyper-V role. Backup Exec run on host server and it works fine.

Now we need to move Backup Exec on a VM so I have installed a VM using Windows 2012R2 and Symantec Backup Exec 15 (same program version) but I cannot se the SAS HBA card and tape drive from BE15.

Are PV 114x and SAS 6Gbps HBA card compatible with Hyper-V? If yes how can make them visibile to VM system?

Thanks in advance, Fabio

Hello tech.info,

Tape drives normally don’t work well with VM’s & therefore are not supported on a VM.  It is always best to have them on a physical system to ensure that there are no issues.  You can try to use the SAS passthrough, although at times it can fail to reconnect to tape drives at times.
