iSCSI Newbie question

Hi all,

I have two Dell 2950's that I've named VS1 and VS2 and a PowerVault MD 3000i. I've got both servers configured with the iSCSI initiator. Both Servers can see the physical drives.

Windows 2008 Server Ent 64bit

My question is If you have 4 mirror sets, can you see those mirror sets on both servers. On VS1 I formatted the drives and can see them all in Disk Manager.

On VS2, I can see the drives but they are not formatted/labelled.

VS1 shows the following mirrored sets

Disk1 - E drive (278GB)

Disk2 - F drive (278GB)

Disk3- G drive (557GB)

Disk4- H drive (557GB)

Disk5 - New Volume - unformatted (278GB)

VS2 shows several  unallocated disks in "Disk Management"

Is clustering they only way I'd be able to see the physical drives on both servers? I had it in my head that iSCSI would allow me to see the physical formatted drives on both servers. I'm using these servers for virtualization.

Any insight would be great

Thanks in advance

In short yes, some level of clustering is required to share a virtual disk between servers.
