Hello Vijay,

that depends on the type of Raid that you will be using as well as the type of data.  In most cases that I have seen most customers create 2 VD instead of one large one.  The biggest reason is the rebuild time, as with a 18TB VD the rebuild time will be long.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Vijiay,

https://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pvaul/en/powervault-md3200-m3200i-cabling-guide.pdf

https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/common/powervault-md3200i_deployment%20guide_en-us.pdf

Above are the cabling guide and deployment guide for the chassis in question, in case you have further questions.

You'll need to make sure that RC0 on the 3220i connects to EMM0 on the MD1220, and RC1 on the 3220i connects to EMM1.  Both controllers need to have access to the MD1220.  If not, you may get "Virtual Disks Not On Preferred Path" errors. Keep in mind, you'll need add the 1200 with everything offline. Page 25 of the guide goes into more detail.

Hello,

Thanks for reply for this past.

I have attached MD 1220 as per given link and now i can see MD 1200 under MD 3220i San. So now i have to work to add space under MD 3220i.

So my question is that which options can give better performance.

1) Should i add in same existing Disk pool ( which i created for Md 3220i)

2) Should i create New Disk pool and add MD 1220 space.

Or if have any best setup to get more data speed please let me know.

Note: My server is running on 2008 R2 with sybase database. So can you please give us suitable setup for good speed.

Thanks,

Vijay

Hello Vijay,

When you have multiple enclosures, it is best to not have a disk group or disk pool span multiple enclosures.  You will get better performance with having each disk group or disk pool on their own enclosure.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Sam,

As per your instruction  i have created new Disk pool for  MD1220 encloser. And total free space is 18 TB.

So now my question is  should assign full space to single virtual disk (18 TB)  or

should i create two separate virtual disk with 9TB each virtual disk. Which one be giving good performance?

Thanks Sam,

I am using Raid 6 (Default Dell raid setup) and we are using for sybase and document write and read purpose only.

Thanks,
