Can I move MD1000 RAID to new server?
I have an MD1000 split between two servers, a R710 and a PE2950. The 720 is running 2008r2 and the PE2950 is running 2003. I am looking to upgrade the 2950 to 2008. I would like to connect both sides of the array to the R710.
Can I just connect the 2nd array to the R710 and do a Foreign import?
What will happen to shares/permissions after the import?

Hello Evanspa,
With your MD1000 you state that yours is split between your 2 servers. Are you running your MD1000 in split bus mode or unified mode?
If you are running in split bus mode then you will not be able to import the virtual disk on your 2008 system. What you will need to do is to move the controller that is connected to the MD1000 from the PE2900 to the R710 server.

We are setup in Split mode. So I need to move card and all? hmm
Any issues adding the card? They are both 6/E cards

Hello Evanspa,
With the R720 it can run both Perc6/E cards as it supports a max of 2. You can put the cards in either slot 3,4, or 1.

If I rebuild the RAID and change it to Unified mode do I need both cable connections?

Hello Evanspa,
So if you want to make the MD1000 into unified mode you can only use one cable but I wouldn’t. since you have 2 EMM in your MD1000 you can cable a connection from each EMM to the PERC6/e so that in the event that you have a EMM go down you can still run off the second EMM.
