Cleaning Tape Issue (Poweredge 2600 - DLT IV)

I'm having an issue with cleaning tapes in a DLT IV tape drive in the Poweredge 2600. When you insert the cleaning tape, it sits in there for about 5-10 seconds then ejects itself automatically.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Other information: Windows Server 2003, Veritas Backup Exec 10.0

Thanks!

I now realize that the cleaning tape will automatically kick itself out after it runs. However, I am now having an issue with the fact that after inserting the cleaning tape multiple times (10+), the clean drive light remains on and blinking.

One more thing...I also tried a brand new Dell cleaning tape for the drive. I inserted it nine times and the cleaning light still remains on.

DLT III cleaning tapes are used for DLT 7000/8000 tape drives. They are only good for 20 passes. They are cream in colour (color)
and should be marked after each use. After 20 passes they should be discarded.
If, after using an unexpired cleaning tape the cleaning LED remains on, then one can assume that you have a tape drive issue.
There is no need to insert the cleaning tape on DLT drives unless the light is on and should not be inserted 10 times in a row
as the tape is abrasive.
If the light does not go out after the first pass more than likely there is a problem with the drive.
Try downloading PVTools or the HP Library and Tape Tools from the HP web site.
These 2 diagnostics, especially the HP one is a very good way of diagnosing the problem with the drive.

After running a thorough acceptance test or R/W test check out the results via the Support Ticket. This will read the logs of the drive and give
you quite a good breakdown of the problems being experienced.
Dell have a similar L&TT however it is limited with the type of drives it can test.
