It is not recommended to remove the top cover as you can damage the internal workings if not done correctly. With that being said if you still want to remove the cover what you need to do is the following:
Remove power from the system.
Remove system from the Rack (if system is in a rack).
Remove the 7 screws on the top of the system.
Remove the 4 screws from each side of the system.
Slide the cover towards the rear & lift off slowly.
