Dell PowerVault NX3100 has error light but no obvious error!
We have a Dell PowerVault NX3100 which has an error light on the front. It looks like a heartbeat symbol, so we assume that it has something to do with the Power, but we cannot find anything wrong with the power to the Server.
The Power Cables have been removed and re-seated to no avail. I have searched through the OpenManage Server Administrator program and I cannot find an obvious source for this fault.
The Server has survived numerous restarts with this flashing light on it and restarts without stopping at a BIOS or other error, so we are running out of ways to find out what this error is!
The Server has been like this for some time without obvious issue, but we would like to know what it might be and how we can resolve it, if anyone has any suggestions, please.
Thank you.

Check OMSA, System, Main System Chassis, Logs tab, Hardware Logs sub-tab for hardware events.

The latest error was in October 2013 that says "Fri Oct 25 18:12:44 2013 PS 2 Status: Power Supply sensor for PS 2, failure (PMBus communication error) was asserted
Fri Oct 25 18:12:45 2013 System Board PS Redundancy: PS Redundancy sensor for System Board, redundancy lost was asserted"
However, the power seems to work OK and both power lights show up. I have removed each one individually and the Server continues to run correctly. Is this a system board issue?

Hello DASquarePeg,
What I would do is to make sure that the firmware for your power supply is up to date. Here are the links so that if you need to upgrade the firmware.
Emerson 750W PSU (PN:G24H2) Firmware Package
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=0RWJ6&fileId=3156005623&osCode=LHS64&productCode=powervault-nx3100&languageCode=EN&categoryId=PS
LiteOn 1100W (PN: 9PG9X) Firmware Package
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=2RXXY&fileId=2731092531&osCode=LHS64&productCode=powervault-nx3100&languageCode=EN&categoryId=PS
IF you have updated the firmware for the power supply & still getting the error then I would make sure that the bios is up to date & if that is then I would clear the hardware log & see if the error returns. Here is the bios firmware if you need it. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=PM58G&fileId=3000513211&osCode=LHS64&productCode=powervault-nx3100&languageCode=EN&categoryId=BI
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
