Help connecting 2 PE2950 Servers running linux to MD3000
Hello Folks,
I have a MD3000 setup right now with 2 Windows 2003 servers via single path on each and using clustering and they are cabled per the instructions and work fine.
I know the MD3000 will support 4 hosts so I wanted to setup 2 more 2950s running Redhat Xen. I have tried for a few weeks to get both servers to share a disk group without much luck. I just wanted the 2 linux hosts to have access to the disk group so I can do live migration with the images on a central spot.
The first 2950 Linux server connected to Controller 0 IN-1 can see the disk and it is setup using GFS2 but the second server connected to Controller 1 IN-1 does not see the disk.
I setup both hosts as linux on the MD3000. Here is the profile output from the MD3000. I even tried moving the cable from one port to the other on the SAS card on the box that does not see the disk but no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks!

If you check the MD3000 support matrix, I don't see an option to connect 2 clusters. It's either 1 cluster using a single cable per node (and the picture only shows the controllers to have a single in-port per controller), or 2 servers where each server connects to both controllers.
The section showing 4 servers connected has no mention of clustering at all, leading me to believe clustering isn't supported in that setup.
You may be running into the reason why hooking up more than 2 systems is limited to non-clusters only.
If you want to try, you could try the other SAS port on the 2nd Linux server's SAS5E card (and make sure you don't accidentally have a PERC5E or PERC6E as these look the same from the outside (back of the server)).

Also, as per the same support matrix, a single path cluster is only supported with windows clustering. Maybe this is a limitation of the linux clustering software.
You might be able to find more information on the Dell Linux Wiki

I also found some more info about MD3000/MD3000i clustering here on the Dell support site.

Thanks for the info! I guess Im lucky to get a third host to see the drives.
For now I am going to use a NFS mount on the primary. Next I need get some kind of FTP script setup to copy the image files from the primary array lun to the secondary internal array using a crossover private connection on a regualr basis so I can just fire up the host on the second box if I need to.
