MD1000 SAS to SATA change
I bought a used PowerVault MD1000 15 Bay Hard Drive Array. It came with hard drive caddies marked SAS. No drives, but the interposer still card on each caddy. The controllers indicate that both SAS and SATA are supported. I prefer SATA (speed not a worry, and the byte volume more economical). I'm wondering if the SAS interposer cards in the SAS caddies will support SATA drives. Can I just slip the SATA drives into the SAS caddies? Are there any other considerations in changing drive type? TIA for any help.

Hello, trgriffiths.
You are correct. The MD1000 is a SAS only backplane. So, anytime you need to plug SATA drives into it, you will need those interposers. Otherwise, the drive would just show errors.
So, yes. 'Slip' those SATA drives into the SAS caddie, and honestly that's the only consideration to make.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
