Hello pinone,

With the MD3000 the alerts are generated from MDSM and then sent out. So if you test the email feature within MDSM it should be able to send a test email out to your email account as long as the account is setup correctly in MDSM. Also I would check to make sure that your fiirewall is not blocking the message. Here is also a link to the administrator guide & if you look on page 25 to double check that you have configured your email settings correctly. ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md3000_User%27s%20Guide20_en-us.pdf

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi there, I'm really in on pressure to configure Alert on MD3220i, please help me so I'm in rush. what I did so far:

I setup virtual mail server (include gmail account, it works fine I can send out test email) on my 2012 R2 server which is connected to SAN (just one volume)

I put different format of the mail server (server IP address, domain name, server name, Blank),  on Mail Server field, I don't know what format should I use. also put sender email address as I setup on virtual mail server and recipient email address too. depend on what name I put on Mail Server name I get different error like:

ServerName --> Validation unsuccessful. Input stream checking SMTP return code....

myVirtualMailServerName --> The mail (SMTP) server you specified can not be found ....

smtp.gmail.com --> Validation Unsuccessful . Incorrect return code from smtp command. ...

please help me to fix this one

thanks a lot

Hello mydevel,

You should be able to configure email alerts to any mail server without an issue. Have you checked to make sure that you are configuring your email alerts like on page 42 of the admin guide? Here is a link to the guide just in case you need it. http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/common/md32xx_md36xx_administrator%20guide_en%20us.pdf
