MD3000i VD seems to go offline when doing backups - a hard drive throws an unrecoverable error
We have been struggling for months now with inconsistent failures when backing up a virtual drive on an MD3000i. The VD seems to go offline for a few minutes which of course kills the backup. No error is entered into the Windows 2008 R2 64bit event log but the following shows up in the MD3000i's log:
Date/Time: 6/12/12 6:07:06 AM
Sequence number: 29004
Event type: 1016
Event category: Error
Priority: Informational
Description: Physical Disk returned unrecoverable media error
Event specific codes: 3/11/0
Component type: Physical Disk
Component location: Enclosure 0, Slot 12
Logged by: RAID Controller Module in slot 0

The SAN though never reports an error or it it does it is blank like this one that gets emailed out:

I have ordered a replacement drive but was wondering if something else was happening and why the drive is not being flagged as bad by the SAN.
Also - when I get the new drive, do it jut pop out the 'bad' one and add the new one? Since the drive is not flagged as bad it does not show up in the Replace Failed Drive utility on the Modular Disk Management software.
Thanks in advance,
J.

Hello jabellas,
All look good except that the error code is pointing to a drive that might be having some problems. In this case the error code that you get 03 11 00 which is pointing to drive located in Enclosure 0, Slot 12. Now u stated that you keep getting this error and I wanted to make sure that the same drive is the one that keeps coming up & not any other drives. In this case we would recommend that you replace drive located in Enclosure 0, Slot 12.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
