MD3200i Email Validation Unsuccessful. Incorrect return code from SMTP command.

Question

Please assist with email alert setup. Receive the above error when testing email configuration in configuring alerts.

Trouble shooting completed so far:

Ensured admin server has access to exchange, resolves via IP as well as FQDN. Used FQDN and IP for Mail Server settings.

Since admin server is 2008 R2, I have ensured that telnet is installed and connects to the mail server through CMD.

Created an anonymous relay connector on mail server that responds to the DSM server IP. Do not believe this would have any impact...

Exchange server is Exchange 2010 and it is using default SMTP port of 25.

Confirmed that "Modular Disk Storage Manager Event Monitor" (SMmonitor) service is started.

Confirmed that Ethernet Management Port is configured correctly, is listed in DNS and is reachable via IP and FQDN.

Both admin server and exchange server are on the same logical network assigned to the same LAN.

Kenny, I was able to previously resolve this issue. I apologize for not updating this thread. It was indeed an Exchange connector issue for the anonymous relay. Thank you for your responses. Aaron

From my understanding you are having some issues with the SMTP and email alert setup. If you log onto your SMTP server are you able to ping the management ports on the SAN?

Ok that is good. That way we know that we have physical connection which is a plus. I have seen in the past where antivirus programs can cause some issues with the email alerts. I would recommend disableing any antivirus software on the system that the management software is running. Then once that is complete test and see if you still get that error message.

Have Symantec Endpoint Protection. Have turned it off. Have also turned off windows firewall. Results the same. Still unsuccessful.

I would advise to double check the relay and make sure its configured as it should. I am also including a link that should be helpful with the steps of how to configure the email alerts. It starts on the bottom of page 76.
