ME4024 High Latency (ResponseTime) on RAID5 10K volumes
We are experiencing high response times (latency) on our RAID5 volumes with SAS 10K drives, we use them to store SQL Data files.
Where can we start to diagnose?

Hello Sam.
We are using RAID5 pools with 4 1200GB 10K disks. In the ME4024 Admin Guide (p. 184) I saw that we should be using RAID5 Volumes with 5 or 9 Disks. Do you think this is cause of our latency problem?
We also have a 3 600GB 15K disks RAID5 pool with the same situation. Where else can we look in our configuration for a possible misconfiguration?

Hello Markman12-,
Since you are only using 4 drives in your Raid 5 that can cause latency on your volume. I would also make sure that you check the support matrix as it also has some configuration information that can help as well. We are now planning to expand those RAID5 to 5 drives.
We are considering to switch the ME4024 from virtual to linear. Do you believe it could help us with our performance problems?

Hello Markman12-,
It can improve performance by switching to linear from virtual. With Linear you have more control over your pools and volumes then you do in virtual.

A last question, can we use the SSD Read Cache feature if we switch to Linear?

SSD Read Cache feature is not available in Linear.
