PowerVault MD3220i - Revive an Offline Disk
Hello,
i've the following problem with my MD3220i Storage System.
To prevent any disk problems we decided to replace the older disks in the Storage. So i manually flagged one disk to the "FAILED" - State and replace it with an new disk. When i run the script to set the disk offline the rebuild on the hot spare disk starts and everything works fine.
Now the problem ->
We want to use the old disks to have a little bit Storage place where we could test things and so i'Ve inserted two disk which i had already replaced in the last two weeks AND the disk where the rebuild was running.
the rebuild was still running when i've inserted the disk i set manually to "failed" in another slot of the storage. And now the rebuild is done but the disk i've changed it not assigned to the RAID - Group but the disk in "failed" state is still assigned to it.
Because of "possible data loss" by the "revive" - command, i would prefer another better and more secure way.
Can anyone help me ?

Hello Marcel,
With the MD3xxx system once a drive has failed or been marked as failed the drives serial# is recorded by the system so that if the drive ever comes back online it can add it back into the virtual disk configuration. With that being said the best way to resolve this issue that you have is if you have a dell server is to insert the drive into the server a run a format on the drive so that it will clear the configuration on the drive so that when you insert it back into your MD3220i that it will be seen as in the free space and then you can add the free space to any Virtual Disk or Disk group.
