Process to turn off an MD3600f Array
Hi everyone:
I purchased a new MD3600f array, but I don't have any clue, how to turn it off, is there a button on the console of the Storage Manager Client, that shut down the array?, or do I have to go directly to the power supplies and press both energy buttons to power off the array
Any comment is more than welcome
Thanks

JLNA221082,
With the PowerVault MD line there is no actual power button. To power off the array you would just use the switches on the individual power supplies. I went ahead and attached the owners manual link below for your reference.

The proper power down procedure for a setup like this is:
- power down the servers using storage on the SAN array
- give the array a few minutes to flush write cache to disk
- power down the SAN array (in this case using the power buttons on each of the power supplies)
- power down any iSCSI or fiber channel switches (assuming nothing else is using these)
More importantly is the power up procedure/order:
- power up the iSCSI/FC switches and give them 1 to 2 minutes to boot
- power up the SAN array and give it 2 to 5 minutes to boot
- power up the servers using storage on this SAN array

Hi Dev,
I would like to clarify the following task with you.
When you mentioned - power down the servers using storage on the SAN array.
-> Do you mean power down all the Virtual Machines inside the SAN Array/Storage?
Next, you mentioned - give the array a few minutes to flush write cache to disk and - power down the SAN array (in this case using the power buttons on each of the power supplies)
-> Do you mean after power down the virtual machine in the SAN array, wait for few minutes and then just switch off the button behind the power supply straight?

Hello aaronlaw88,
You are correct. If you have VM's hosted on the storage you would want to migrate them off or shut them down before shutting down the Storage. Once that is done then you power off the storage unit with the power switch on the power supplies.

Hi Charles,
Thank you for your reply.
I just want to confirm with you again. As you have said "power off the storage unit with the power switch on the power supplies". By doing it, will it cause any data corruption or it is the best practice to shut down the storage?

Hello aaronlaw88,
I'm sorry if it was unclear. Let me state it this way:
Power down any hosts (including any VM hosted on the storage), then power down head unit, then power down any expansion enclosures. You would then power up expansion enclosures, then head unit, then hosts .
Please let me know if this helped.
