For disk drives to work in the PV 650, they must have 520 byte cylinders.  Most drives come with 512 byte.  This may be the problem.

Hi

I have already reformatted the drives to 520 sectors, when they are reinserted into the system they appear as unsupported. The problem is they are not Dell origonal equipment. It would be nice to reuse these drives with the 650F. It will need a firmware change - which is were I am stuck.

Thanks for your reply

I am in the same situation as you. Did you ever resolve the issue? If so, how did you get the de84 onto the drive? And did you have any other issues?

The PV650F must recognize a drive with correct format and supported code before it will allow upgrades to the drive firmware.  Make sure your Flare is at or above level 5.11.17 to enable support of both Dell and EMC drives.

Otherwise there is no vendor supported end user solution to salvaging foreign drives.   If you purchased from Dell or EMC that might be another story...   :-)

Did you ever get an answer on how to change the firmware on your disks for the PV650F or did you end up bbuying replacement drives from dell?

Thanks
