Self-Encrypting Disk Security Lock (SED)

Good afternoon, I have replaced a damaged disk, and when I put the new one identical to the old one, it tells me that SED is blocked. How can I unlock it? I don't have a password for the disks, it isn't configured so I don't have one.

Thanks for the help in advance.

JMMndat,

Before we move forward I would like to confirm a couple things with you.

Specifically what firmware version are you on?

Also are you able to upload the support bundle to upload. dell. com?

If so would you private message me the svc tag used to upload the logs, that way I can locate and retrieve them.

Let me know.

Good morning,

I send you image.
Regarding maintenance, I no longer have it, it ends in January-February of this year, and they do not allow us to renew it, due to the age of the cabin.

That's why I'm here to see if someone can help me.

Thanks in advance.

Good morning,

The defective disk and the one that gives the error (new) is the same model
ST91000642SS . I don't have another record to try right now.
A greeting, and thanks for answering and your possible help

Hi,

Could you try another disk to check if it's the disk issue.

What is the model of your storage?

Could you let us know the faulty disk DPN#.

Hi, I guess the security key has been activated on this disk somehow. Normally, to unlock the physical disks, you must supply the security key from the original storage array. The security key on the new storage array is different and cannot unlock the physical disks.
You must supply the security key from a security key file that was saved on the original storage array. You must provide the passphrase that was used to encrypt the security key file to extract the security key from this file.

Please check below,

Erasing secure physical disks
In the AMW, when you select a security-enabled physical disk that is not part of a disk group, the Secure Erase menu item is enabled on the Physical Disk menu. You can use the secure erase procedure to re-provision a physical disk. You can use the Secure Erase option if you want to remove all of the data on the physical disk and reset the physical disk security attributes.
CAUTION: Possible loss of data access—The Secure Erase option removes all of the data that is currently on the physical disk. This action cannot be undone.
Before you complete this option, make sure that the physical disk that you have selected is the correct physical disk. You cannot recover any of the data that is currently on the physical disk.

After you complete the secure erase procedure, the physical disk is available for use in another disk group or in another storage array. See help topics for more information about the secure erase procedure. https://dell.to/3kN14am

Secure Erase option is displayed in the Hardware menu https://dell.to/3kKyIxl

Good morning,

Thanks for the answer, after going around, I don't know how but it tells me that the disk is optimal, but I get a lock and it won't let me put it as a spare, or do anything with it.

Thanks in advance for the help provided.

Hello @JMMndat,

Sorry, did you try the steps suggested in the previous post? The problem might be in the disk you are using.

Regards.
