TL4000 Remote Management Interface stops responding

I have a TL4000 with the latest firmware for the library and drives installed. The RMU stops responding after being powered on for a while. It even stops responding to ICMP Ping requests. A reboot of the TL4000 will resolve it for awhile, but the RMU goes offline after about a week of being powered on.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I have follow your steps and reinstall the firmware withe the itdt-dcr tool, but after one ore two days the webinterface is no longer aviable. Ping on the interface are fine. After restart the device the webinterface are aviable back. This are the same error before i reinstall the firmware update over the itdt tool.

There is a firmware that corrects this issue, which Dell is currently using in an attempt to capture the failure.  The firmware is available, but you have to escalate thru tech support, it is called 7u43(debug) code, in which you have to sign a waiver to get it...something like they want to track the the firmware.  It worked for me!

They just released a 9.30 firmware that does not fix the issue. What's interesting is that I have a 2-year-old TL4000 that doesn't die (the RMU) with the latest firmware, but my brand new TL4000 and TL2000 both die in less than a day - the RMU and ICMP (pings). Additionally, my TL2000's front control panel becomes inoperable - have to pull the plug to get the power off and regain control. The MAC addresses on the network interfaces look like they all came from the same vendor. There are, however, some minor variations in the bootcode and drive firmware:

I've just updated one TL4000 here to the A.50 / 3.10e firmware, which claims to have a "formal fix" for the loss of connectivity.  Too soon to say whether it's fixed the problem but it's worth a try.

I updated my three units to the A.50 / 3.10e / A14 firmware on 4/26/2011 and all the RMUs have remained accessible since. Finally. Thanks for the fix Dell.

You should get into contact with tech support. The latest library firmware is B.60. Sounds like you're attempting to upgrade the drive firmware using the incorrect file for your drive or that your drive is hosed.

Dell tech support will provide best effort. You also have the option to purchase another warranty contract from the sales side

Ok I am having a similar issue. Every couple of months the web interface times out. The issue is that I get a microcode scisi unload error. I even have errors in the log files. Yet this technician I am talking to insists it is a networking issue. How does this even make any sense? He says that the reboot clears out the networking issues and it's my network that is the issue. This just started happening a few months ago too.

Whats your firmware level? few people above upgraded.

it may be a library controller issue that happens every so often and a reboot fixes it.
