Using Windows defender with windows storage server 2016 in powervault

Dear Dell Community.

I'm doing some preliminary research on the Dell EMC Storage NX3240.

Is it possible to scan for viruses with Windows Defender installed on Windows Storage Server 2016 for this product?

Or do I need to buy other antivirus software?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, Windows Storage Server operating systems used for NAS appliances come with the hardware as you know. It is a customized version of the Windows Server operating system, most suitable for NAS devices. Since I do not use Windows Storage in practice, I am not sure if you can enable or to run 3rd party antivirus applications on Windows Storage Server. I know that with a feature called common antivirus agent (CAVA), 3rd party antivirus applications are available as a feature in products such as Powerscale, Powerstore, which is a bit higher level storages than NX series. I could not see the CAVA feature in the controls I made for the NX series. It would be great if those who have experience in the community can share their experiences. Since Windows Storage Server OS is basically based on Windows Server, I wondered if this is possible. But I have not seen this in practice. I think you might have to check the pre-sales team with a sales representative to see if they have antivirus solutions for the NX series

You can take a look at these two documents.

Page 6 I couldn't see Windows Defender among Storage OS software features https://dell.to/3xRRfhs
I couldn't see it in the admin guide either https://dell.to/3xWsEbo

Hope that helps!
