Dell Precision 380 won't recognize SATA DVD-RW drive

I hate that I have to use this thing, but disaster in the form of a thunderstorm struck my XPS 420 quad core, so this is the only computer I've got left.  I tried to speed it up by putting a beefier video card in it.  In order to do that, I had to change the power supply.  What a pain that was.  Anyway, the power supply I'm using now doesn't have connectors for IDE/PATA drives.  So, I swapped out the stock CD-ROM drive with the DVD-RW drive from my 420, which is SATA.  At first I thought it was great.  The drive LED worked, and the eject button worked.  But then I tried actually using it.  Turns out, neither BIOS nor Windows seem to recognize the drive.  Is the drive too new, or are there some drivers I can download?  I'm running Windows XP service pack 3, by the way.
