T3610 USB 3.0 firmware upgrade - nothing from Dell?

I have examined whether the T3610 is using either the last or a recent version of the on-chip ROM firmware for the embedded uPD720201 Renesas/NEC controller.

This can be done by booting into a Linux and issuing

sudo setpci -s 05:0.0 6c.l

this a safe read-only operation and returns the firmware version from the configuration register 0x6c in the Renesas chip.

On my T3610, this returns 0x00201809 - which indicates a firmware version of 2.0.1.8

Renesas have released later firmware versions of 2.0.2.0 and 2.0.2.6 for this model of controller.

I cannot find any Dell service pack that updates the factory firmware to either of these later versions.

Is the version supplied with the T3610 a Dell-specific firmware ?

Is it safe, or even advised, to update to one of these later releases ?
