T7920 and the 2nd Series of Xeon Scalable Processors

I'm looking at upgrading a single processor T7920 and was thinking of purchasing and installing a "1S" 6210U processor.

According to Intel specs this is a processor that is supposed to be used in a single-cpu scenario (like one of the Supermicro or ASUS or ASRock single cpu boards).

My question is whether the T7920 which is capable of running dual cpus can run a 6210U designed to be used in a single cpu system.

If so the 6210U would seem to be a reasonably inexpensive upgrade to a currently Bronze equipped T7920.

So if anybody out there knows if one of these 1S processors will work in a T7920 please chime in!

Thanks,

Mike

I received my Xeon 6210U and installed it after ensuring my bios was updated from the factory delivered 1.10.3 to the latest 2.5.0.

Booted up (after giving it a good coat of thinking over, like about a minute).

But all is well!

The 6209U, 6210U, and 6212U are all "1S" CPUs that can only be used by themselves (not with another processor in a dual configuration). But as you can see, it does work and has plenty of depth. Now for some faster ram....

This is a followup for those who may not be familiar with the available processors for the T7920.

The owner's manual (PDF) states in the specifications (page 91 of PDF) that the second series scalable Xeons are supported. That's not the issue. The issue is whether the specific versions of the second series that are intended to be "1S" single-cpu workstation processors will work in the Dell T7920 which is a dual CPU board (assuming only one processor is installed, not two of the 6210U CPUs). There are actually three of these "1S" CPUs in the 62xx series, the 6209, 6210, and the 6212. The one I am thinking about upgrading to is the 6210U.

Second series Xeon Scalable processors are supported by the Dell T7920, but are the three "1S" processors listed above supported in the Dell T7920 in a single-cpu configuration like the rest of the second series Xeons is the question.
