The earliest Red Hat Enterprise Linux version certified for your workstation is 7.3 (as outlined in both Dell and Red Hat documentation). I would reasonably expect any CentOS based on RHEL 7.3–7.x or 8.x will work. The reason earlier releases are not certified can be either lack of support for the hardware of your workstation (RHEL 7.1 is from 2015, and your workstation was released on 2017, not to say RHEL 6.0) or lack of interest in certifying the workstation for older products.
My advice would be trying a recent CentOS version. Centos-7 release 1810, from january 28, 2019, should be mostly compatible with earlier CentOS-7 versions and has lots of fixes and improvements. It is based on a recent RHEL snapshot, so it should be fully compatible with your workstation.
Internet is a dangerous place these days, I would suggest updating and fully patching anything directly or indirectly connected to it.

CentOS is not supported here.
Dell partners with Red Hat, SuSE and Canonical.
There is support for linux but its not free.
