1600n paper jam error, opening and closing paper tray fixes it temporarily

I have a Dell 1600n printer that gives me a [paper jam 0] open/close door error every time I try to print. All I have to do is open the paper tray an inch or two and close it, and then it starts printing fine, whether it is one page or 50. Any suggestions on what to try?
