3115cn cleaning problem
After cleaning the glass on my 3115cn for the first time, the left margin of photocopies shows "double vision". The first couple of copies are OK, but the problem occurs again after the scanner warms up. I suspect the problem is caused by humidity. I expected it to go away in a few days, but it's been more than a week, and the problem persists. I only use the copy function occasionally. It is in an air conditioned space with moderate ambient humidity.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? How did you solve it?

After thoroughly cleaning the scan glass bed, look at the scan glass at an angle looking toward the aperture lamp. (if the lamp is not on, just press any button on the control panle to wake it up)
Do you see any smudging or cloudiness on the underside of the scan glass?
If so, the Scanner on this unit is not field replaceable and the printer will need to be exchanged.
If you're not in warrenty, you can very carefully split the top/bottom casing on the scanner (get help... 2 person job!) and clean the underside of the glass while someone else holds it up.

Thank you for your help. I don't see any smudges, moisture, or cloudiness on the underside of the glass.
Do you have any other suggestions?

The left side of the page would be the side farthest away from you as you stand in front of the printer.
It really sounds like the scan head migh be bad.
Does this also happen on copies using the ADF?
If no, then it sounds like the scanner head may be vibrating as it travels across the scanner.
If yes, the optics into the scan head may be defective or have been jar'd loose.
In any case, it will need to be repalced.
When you call tech support, have it outlined step-by-step everything you've done.
Good luck to you.... !!

A 2" margin on the right (nearest) side is shifted approx. 1/16" upward. When the problem began, the same area showed ghosting. In other words, what began as a double image in the affected area is now a single, shifted image.
It happens with both ADF & document glass.
Of course, I'm a little past warrantly period. I reckon I'll need to call tech support.

Sounds like a problem with the scan head optics because it happens with both flatbed and adf glass.
Bummer you're OOW as the scanner is not a separately replaceable unit.
