Raj,

You are using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges, correct?

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to get a Dell Series 5 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would that these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.

Raj,

Make and model of your computer and operating system needed and how you're connect your 964 printer to the computer.

trader999,

Make a System Restore point first. Since we're working with a custom computer, I would advice doing this as you can at least return to the way it is now if something doesn't work right.

Do you have  NVIDIA's Network Access Manager installed? If so, un-install it as it will cause problems with a custom box. It also messes with Google Chrome. We had this issue with another custom box with a different printer. The person look at his event log and noticed some problems and started Googling them to find this out.

When you installed the system, you did install some type of chipset drivers, correct. Some computer systems will install the chipset drivers and some you need to install them yourself. I don't know what is involved with a custom box ad I have only had Dell, HP and Compaq computers in my household but recently went to all Dell Computers as the Hp and Compaq computers fail in a quick death.

I feel that trying to re-install the printer might solve this problem.

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially.net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

Un-install the printer. Start, control panel, add/remove programs. Un-install it from there.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

All other drivers

Vista 64-bit Drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on) Please use a 5ft USB Cable or smaller. If the printer doesn't want to install, try using a different USB Port.

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Let me know what happens

Rick

Do NOT allow Windows Updates to update your drivers as then sometimes offer the wrong drivers and/or the driver get installed wrong causing many devices to fail.

Raj,

Depending on the program you're using at the time, they all do not go to the default printer. Please make sure to check where the print job is going. Also try...
