Connecting Dell V525w printer to google cloud

I have an Inspiron 1545 laptop and Dell V525w printer.  I recently purchased a chromebook and registered my V525w printer in the cloud.

When I attempt to print doc's from the cloud using my chromebook, my printer profile in Google Drive states that it is ready and online.  After clicking on print, it shows a status of "pending".  Only when I reattach the USB cord to my Dell laptop do the documents begin to print.

My questions are:

Is it necessary to leave laptop powered up and connected to printer in order to print from my chromebook in the cloud?

Or, can I print from the cloud using my chromebook directly to my printer if it is "standing alone" not attached to my laptop?

If so, can someone tell me what necessary steps need to be taken to complete this process?

Or, am I better off just purchasing a new "cloud capable" printer?

Thanks for all your help!

kstuartv,

Printer needs to be wireless to use the cloud. Not sure if you need the Dell Mobile Print App

This printer has the capability to have mobile printing, but not exactly sure on all the details. Not sure if you need bluetooth turn on the print.

Virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
