Dell 1100 printer

I have an Inspiron 1150 laptop and a Dell 1100 printer.  I cannot use the printer with my laptop but can use the printer with my old desktop computer.  Any suggestions please?

How exactly do you mean you can use it? What exactly is happening?

I thought my request was straight forward.  I can print with my Dell 1100 printer on my very old desktop computer but I cannot print with it on my Dell laptop.  It doesn't like the printer driver on the laptop.  I even downloaded the driver from the Dell website to see if that was any better, but no, it wasn't.  I've just about given up hope and will probably buy an HP printer.  At least I can check with one of the printers at work to see if it works before I buy one.

I take it that you have this printer networked. Please turn off all firewalls and see if you have the same problem. Then proceed with file and print sharing.

Yes your request is pretty simple but we really need more information to be able to help you. How is the printer connected to the computer? What version of windows are you running? Has it ever worked before?

The firewall is not going to affect anything if it is connected using usb or even via network if the problem as stated is with the driver not being liked by the computer.

The printer in connected to my laptop by USB cable.  The operating system is Windows XP Home.  It has never worked with the laptop.

Ok ignore the post about the firewall that is not going to affect anything in this issue.

Have you tested any other USB devices or printers on this laptop? There will be no technical issue with the printer as you have proved it works on the desktop problem is only with the laptop.

When you first plug the printer in do you get the ping pong noise from windows to show that it has detected a new device?
