Dell W313V Printer - Issues with accepting re-inked cartridges

Okay, I bought for $5 bucks a NEW Dell W313V Printer from a neighbor, he was moving and wanted to sell it cheap.

The cartridges were used up and just about dry, I re-inked them and have successfully re-installed the black cartridge. But the color cartridge will fit back in its slot and when I close up the printer I get an ERROR message across the screen. It says... Missing color cartridge(s), Please install them or print head damage will Occur. I want to know just what this means, especially when I have the cartridge installed exactly like it should be. I put it in in the same way I took it out of the printer. I am struggling with it for 1 hour, removing and re-placing the cartridge. What gives? How do I correct the problem I am having? Is the print head dead then? Or am I just out the $5 bucks?

Jason17201,

Dell series cartridges have a sensor in them Many printer manufacturers started using sensors.

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 21, 22 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 21. 22 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to get a Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would take these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.
