easier way to do it, i just installed as a network printer, instead of selecting local and it no longer pops up the status, only emails report.

problem gone, thx

Oops.  That was on my new 3000cn.  Might not work the same with the 3100 --

When XP told me I had to turn off the Print Spooler before I could Standby,  I went to the Control Panel, Administrative, used the Services shortcut.  Highlighted Print Spooler, and in the upper left there was a link to stop.  When I clicked it, XP told me it would also stop the Status Monitor Service.  Ok. After Standby was over, the printer was back but not the Status Monitor.

(Trouble is, I want it back and don't know how yet.  Will play with that awhile before I give up)
