V305w will not print in color (software related)

Hello,

I have the Dell V305w printer, and I know I have narrowed this issue down to a software/driver issue.

What happens is, if I go into my printer properties before printing a document (.docx or .pdf, or even any image) and uncheck the option for "Print in black and white," the printer (software) ignores this change. I have my preferences set up so that it defaults to print in black and white, by the way.

I know the hardware works, as it will print in color so long as I open "Devices and Printers" to change the default setting back to color, rather than accessing the properties from the print dialog of another program.

Is there a driver/firmware update I'm missing that fixes this? I believe I have the only available driver from the Windows 7 x64 page of drivers for this printer.

Thanks!

Hi vidgmer864,

I appreciate you isolating the issue. We might have to reset the printer back to the factory settings, uninstall and re-install the latest printer driver and software.

Steps to reset the printer back to factory settings are:

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. From the operator panel, use the left and right Arrow buttons to scroll to Setup, press the Select button.
  3. Use the left and right Arrow buttons to scroll to Defaults, press the Select button.
  4. Use the left and right Arrow buttons to scroll to Set Defaults, press the Select button.
  5. Use the left and right Arrow buttons to scroll to Use Factory, press the Select button.
  6. Select the correct language and country.
  7. Settings are reset to factory defaults message might appear.

You might also want to check the user manual of this printer available at link  http://bit.ly/YvJgDj

One we have reset the printer back to factory defaults, we will proceed with the uninstallation and re-installation of the printer drivers and software. Please refer to the link http://dell.to/Zo88K6 to perform clean uninstall and re-install of drivers.

Thank you for the reply. I have followed the instructions and have properly reset my printer to factory settings. I have also re-installed the driver after doing a clean removal per the instructions. However, I still have problems printing in color unless I remove my default setting to print in black and white. Below are my default settings from the Devices and Printers in Windows:

And here, I am trying to print in color in Microsoft Word 2010, by un-checking "Print in Black and White" in the dialog before clicking "Print:"

However, it proceeds to print in Black and White. Perhaps it is a bug in the driver itself? I do not recall having an issue like this before when using Word 2010.

If I change the default setting back to printing in color, it will print in color just fine.

Hi vidgmer864,

Since we have tried the steps from my previous reply, in that case the issue is not related to the Printer hardware or Printer software. It seems to be an issue with the Windows or with the application used to print the document like MS Word, etc.

You might try and create a new 'User Account' and check if the issue still persist. Steps to create a new user account are:

  • To open User Accounts, click the 'Start' button , click 'Control Panel', click 'User Accounts and Family Safety', and then click 'User Accounts'.

  • Click 'Manage another account'. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • Click 'Create a new account'.

  • Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type, and then click 'Create Account'.

If the issue has recently occurred then you may try 'System Restore', which will restore the system to a back date when it was working fine. Note, that you may loose the applications installed after the date to which you will restore the system. The link for 'System Restore' steps is http://dell.to/VRG2ad .

If available, please try and configure any other system with the printer and check if that also does the same thing or not.

Hope this helps. Please share the findings.
