Win98 does not recognize Dell 1500 printer

Trying to set-up my Dell 1500 laser printer and my Win 98 system does not recognize that it is already linked up via a printer cable. Message keeps coming up that "no printer found".

When ordering from Dell, it did say that this printer is compatible with Win 98. help!

sorayas,

Try the following and see if it helps:

Click Start | Settings | Printers.
Select the printer object to uninstall, and then right-click the mouse.
Select Dell Software Uninstall.
Select the components to uninstall, and then click Next.
Click Uninstall Now.

Click OK when the uninstall is complete.

Attach the P1500 to the system with either a USB or parallel cable.
When the "Found New Hardware Wizard" appears, insert the P1500 Drivers and Utilities CD.
Choose "Search for the best driver for your device (recommended)."
When the list of drivers found appears, highlight D:\Drivers\win_9X\English on the list and select "install the updated driver (recommended)".
The hardware wizard will then find the P1500 driver on the CD and install the necessary printer drivers.
After the drivers have been installed, run Setup.exe from the root directory of the Drivers and Utilities CD to install the additional software applications (including the Dell Local Printer Setup Utility) for the Dell P1500.

Respectfully,
