Dell Command Update will not let me enter/set a BIOS Password. Also, I cannot run as Administrator
I've tried multiple fresh installs of Dell Command Update 4.1 and 4.2.1 and attempted a BIOS update.
There is a BIOS password set, so the update fails - The fix for this is to set a BIOS password in Dell Command Update itself, but for some reason, it is greyed out and I can't set it !
My next guess was to try running DCU as Administrator, but I can't do that either. I receive and error saying it couldnt find the path, and when I go to the path, I have no rights as the Admin even. Taking control of the folder, and I still can't run it.
What is going on ?????

It is a shame this has been left with no answer for as long as it has.
I am not able to update UEFI firmware due to this issue.

Hi unfortunately
I am based in the UK
but I will look into that regardless
also so that it is noted this issue is present in Dell Command | Update 4.5.0

This problem still exists in version 4.6. Hello Dell, is there a reason you are ignoring this thread? You enterprise customers really would like an answer.

Seconding the issue still exists in 4.6. Would love to hear an official response from Dell.

The problem still exists with 4.7 now. I have to install 4.5 and login as local administrator for it to let me put a bios password in.

So as of 11/12/2022 has anyone solved this or found anything official from Dell on this issue?

I just found out that if you run the Dell Command Update as an admin, you can enter the BIOS password under settings.

How do you achieve that? I have tried to run it as an administrator, but it does not come up.

I found a work-around: pin it to the task bar, where you can start it as an administrator:
Voilà!

@max.ferger I confirm that this workaround is working (Dell Command Update V5.2.0, Win11, Optiplex SFF Plus 7010)
Thank You.

Its July 2024.
I have 7,000 machines and an IT Audit report flagging 76% of machines have got OLD BIOS. DCU 5.3 fails as cannot remotely set BIOS PWD and have to manually do this stupid work around.

Found this thread, have similar problem to PrinceJasbo.
For automated usage, there is a CLI version installed in the same directory : "dcu-cli.exe"
From an administrator shell, try:
dcu-cli.exe /help
dcu-cli /scan
dcu-cli /applyUpdates
etc
