Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0
I have an Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 Home Edition that I bought just under a year ago. At some point, I have to reformat my hard drive and reinstall the operating system. I must have deleted the factory partition (not sure when and how), but I no longer have Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 on my computer. Where can I get my copy of this software and what's the best way to install. I want to create system recovery disks and can't.
Thoughts...
Thanks,
Martin

Dell began delivering systems having Data Safe Local during April of last year. If your computer was delivered earlier you may not have the program. Data Safe Local is licensed by Dell and may not be free for download. You would need to contact Dell Tech Support to see if you can acquire it.
You should, however, have the Dell Restore Image. This is reached by restarting the computer and pressing F8 just before Windows begins to load to bring up the advanced start-up menu. Select Repair My Computer and follow the directions to restore your computer to factory delivered condition. Caution! This operation replaces the contents of your C: drive with the original software installed by Dell. If you have anything on this drive you wish to keep you need to save it to external media before beginning the restore procedure.
EDIT: See this for additional information: Windows 7 PC Restore .

I have an Inspiron 15R (N5010) with Windows 7 Home Basic Edition that I bought just two weeks ago. I am trying to create the Sytem recovery discs with Dell DataSafe Local Backup. I have the preinstalled Dell DataSafe Local Backup version 9.4.47. Last three days ago, an update is installed and now the recent version is Dell DataSafe Local Backup version 9.4.51.
I am following the procedure as specified in KB Article - 353561 (Creating Your System Recovery Discs with Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0). The software is taking long time for about an hour and more, but there is no status of burning the disc. I am seeing "Insert blank recordable disc now..."
Detailed Steps followed are as follows:
Open the Dell DataSafe Local Backup application
Select Create recovery media, press Next
Create system recovery media --> Discs (Selected Discs radio button), Press Next
Inserted the blank DVD-R disc, Press Next
Message "Insert blank recordable disc now..." appearing for more than one hour and more and there is no clue of disc being burned!!!
I want to create system recovery disks and i can't? Can i get the system recovery discs from dell itself instead?
Thanks,
Rajesh

You can ask Dell for an installation DVD for Windows 7 by clicking on the link contained in Jesse-L's post. Bear in mind that the disk you receive will be an OEM version of the Windows 7 installation DVD. It will not be a "restore" disk that contains all the software presently on your hard drive. If you live outside the U.S. you will not be able to use the form. You will instead need to contact Dell Tech Support for your region and ask for the disks. Use the form as a guide to the information you will need to give the Dell representative.
With regard to the blank disks you are using; they cannot be DVD R/W + or -. They must be DVD-R. Also, the DVD burners will sometimes be picky about the brand of disk used. I stick with Maxcel or TDK.

Good reply. Helpful explanation. I am attempting to restore via dell data safe program, and it states any new files added since the datasafe was created would be placed back when complete. Is this true, it re-does the hard drive' and then puts my pics' and docs back on?
Seems much too good to be true? Anyone have experience with this? I do not want to loose the files I failed to back-up recently. win7 will not restore to earlier working point due to corrupted bluetooth driver file.

Hi abdullahi,
You are absolutely correct the recovery partition is lost while reinstalling the operating system. You may install the Datasafe Local from the link: http://bit.ly/bbYoho. Follow the instructions and you should be able to install Datasafe Local.
However, while installing the Datasafe it takes the snapshot of HDD in current state and creates a recovery partition accordingly. I would recommend you to back up all the data, remove it from the system and then install the Datasafe Local. For example if I have to create recovery media I will install Datasafe Local with just the operating system, drivers and some basic applications. Basically, it’s possible to customize recovery partition and in turn the recovery media to your own convenience.
You will also be able to use option to load the recovery image after installing Datasafe local.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any other questions.

I actually just purchased the Premium Edition of Dell DataSafe Local Backup yesterday for my XPS m2010. But each time I try to run the full system backup, it runs quickly to 1% then says "An error occurred during the Full System Backup creation. Please try again later." I tried again later and the same error occurred. Even though it's newly bought software, I haven't been able to find any support options on the Dell website other than this community... Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

How does the backup & recovery process work with a separate user/data partition on the boot drive? (I have the recovery partition, the Windows/programs partition c:/, and a data partition I called x:/, all on the internal drive. If I do a factory reset, will it only restore the c:/ drive, or does it reformat & repartition the entire drive? I would really rather not have to copy off (and later restore!) 640+ GB of data!
