Outlook 2003 Send/Receive Button Not Working

I'm using outlook 2003 and when I press the send/receive button, nothing happens. If I send a message regularly it works but not the send/receive button. I just recently installed AVG Free anti-virus on my computer and it stopped working after that. I tried to disable the e-mail scanner but it still wouldn't work. Please help.
