Outlook Express not displaying email anymore

Just got a new computer and had it all set up and working fine.  Been getting all my email with no probs until today. Turned on the pc, went to check my mail and saw that i had numerous emails.  Clicked on the first one to read it and got an error message in the email display area (where you read your email message).  Said OE unable to display the message and to check my computer for low memory or low disk space.  It wouldn't let me open any of the messages and then they all disappeared.  Now when i go into OE it will say 2 new messages (or whatever is new) but there are no messages displayed.  I did the check for the *.dbx files while reading the knowledge base but it resulted in no files found.  When I try to send email it will say 'there was an error opening this message.  An error has occurred.'  and won't let me even attempt to write an outgoing message.
