Remote control and PowerPoint

The projector works fine, as does the remote, but just for projector functions.

I can click through all the setup functions for brightness, contrast, etc. through the remote, but the Next Page/Previous Page buttons do nothing.

I have PowerPoint running, and open to a slide show.

All other programs have been disabled.

HELP! ;)

Johnray,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
See if the following information helps.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem:
The remote USB mouse function of the 3100MP or 3200MP projector remote control is not recognized or enumerated by the PC or notebook computer or the mouse functions and/or the pg up and pg down functions of the remote do not work.

Answer:
There are two potential problems you may experience:
1) The mouse control of the cursor will not work unless the "access hatch" on the remote is fully closed.
When the hatch is opened, the mouse pad allows the user to navigate through the projector OSD.
When the hatch is securely closed, the mouse functions to control the cursor on the PC/notebook.
In some cases, the hatch may appear closed, but if it not closed tightly, the sensing switch will not sense that the hatch is closed and the mouse cursor control will not work.

2) In some cases, the PC/notebook may not recognize or enumerate the remote mouse/keyboard.
If the USB remote functions are recognized and enumerated, the system will load drivers for a USB mouse and a USB keyboard and will add these devices to device manager.
These driver loads do not happen if the device is not recognized/enumerated.
The fix for this situation is to power down the projector and, after it has finished cooling, to unplug it for several seconds, then re-plug and restart the projector.

#1 - remote USB recognized, but mouse function not working
Ensure that the remote "hatch" cover is securely closed, allowing the sensing switch to engage.

#2 - remote USB not recognized/enumerated
Unplug the USB cable from the PC/notebook
Power the projector lamp down by pressing the power button and then pressing it again to confirm the power down.
Wait for the projector to finish its cool-down cycle
Unplug the projector power cord and wait 15 seconds, then plug the power cord back in.
Power the projector back up
Plug the USB connector back into the PC/notebook.
If this does not cause the USB mouse to enumerate and load drivers, repeat the process.

Thanks for your response.

Your reply addressed the 3000 series of projectors, but mine is a 2200.

Are your instructions regarding the hatch on the remote also applicable to a 2200?

Johnray,

Check your remote controll, if it has a hatch on it, then follow that portion of the instructions.
Also try the removing/reseating part of the instructions as well if you have not already done so.
The "remote" mouse options require that you have the USB cable plugged from the computer to the projector.
Have you plugged in the USB cable?

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Question:
How do I properly use the remote mouse features of my projector?

Discussion:
The Remote Mouse capability allows the user to use the remote control to remotely move the computer's mouse cursor.
A remote mouse cable is provided with the projector. The input cable contains a USB connection for remote mouse access.
On the Dell 2100MP and 2200MP the USB cable is separate.
On the Dell 3100MP and 3200PM the USB cable is part of the main video input cable.
Note:
In order to set this up correctly, the following must be performed:
Connect the input signal cable to the computer and the projector.
Power on the projector and allow it to boot.
Connect the USB cable to the computer.
Power on the computer and allow for detection of the USB device.
Since USB is a plug and play standard, the USB interface cable can be plugged into the computer after the computer is running.
If the USB interface has been installed on the computer, Windows will automatically detect the USB mouse interface and install the appropriate driver.
Windows 2000 and XP have native support for this.
The Device Manager entry will show the following:

-Mice and other pointing devices...
--HID-compliant mouse

Troubleshooting
The remote control will not operate in mouse capability mode if the remote control panel door is open.
Note: The default remote control for the Dell 2100MP and 2200MP may not have a hatch.
The default remote control for the 3100MP and 3200MP will have a hatch.
You can also purchase a replacement or upgrade remote control for these projectors from Dell.
Check the remote control to see if it has a hatch or not.
Ensure the door is closed completely. Open and close the door to verify it is closed properly.

Still didn't answer the question.  The question was about the standard remote control not the remote mouse.  I have the same problem.  The standard remote control brings up all the projector functions but the page up/ page down buttons don't work.  The USB cable is plugged in.  Is it just a bad remote control or is there a trick?
