Hi Sanjay,

What are your career goals? What is your objective for wanting an EMC certification? That would help narrow down the possibilities.

Hi BRSGRL,

First of all Thanks for the brief information and the links you provided me.

The details provided by you were very useful to me. So as i understand from you my first step should be

E10-001 ISM v2 Exam and i have to prepare for this.

Can you please provide me the course material (PDF,Links) for E10-001 ISM v2 Exam. So that i can prepare myself.

Sanjay,

First, you should go to http://education.emc.com/guest/certification/default.aspx and register for a user account. It provides information on the certification, the exams, the recommended cirriculum, and practice exams.

There is a Storage Administrator track http://education.emc.com/guest/certification/framework/sa/default.aspx with Clarion Expert and Specialist levels that probably fit your goals.

If you look at the overall certification framework at http://education.emc.com/guest/certification/framework/default.aspx it suggests that the first exam is Information Storage and Management (EMCISA), Exam: E10-001 - ISM v2 Exam. The info for that exam is here: http://education.emc.com/guest/certification/framework/stf/stf.aspx

You have to dig around to find the details. For instance the link to the free practice exam is imbedded in the exam description. To make things easy, I am including it here: https://secure.testcraft.com/emc/assess.aspx?aid=MR-1DP-001-2012Q2V2&apass=E10-001

Once you take the Associate level exam, identify specific technoligies that you want to specialize in.

Of course, I think any of the Backup and Recovery tracks are a good choice. ;-)

Good luck!

Hi Sanjay,

The curriculum details for Exam: E10-001 - ISM v2 Exam are available at: http://education.emc.com/content/_common/docs/learning_path_descriptions/Information_Storage_and_Management.pdf

I don't have the course materials for this exam. My suggestion is to buy the latest edition of Information and Storage Management http://education.emc.com/ISMBookV2/ (which I highly recommend) and look into either the Video or Live ILT (Instructor Led Training)

Hi

Just a note about the Clarion Track. - this is been phased out - instructor lead course. Was looking to do this myself - but course cancelled as not enough people registered.

This is in the Uk, not sure if this is the state of play in other countries. I'm now going down the VNX route now.

Just passed my ISMv2 exam last week, tip - the practice exam is very good.

Hi

thanks.

I've going for the VNX track.  There is two options on this.  The combined File and Block (5days) or seperate courses for File (5days) and Block (5days).

See details here: https://education.emc.com/CUst/certification/framework/sa/vnx.aspx

The VNX Block is not much different from the Clarion course. Same interface and general works.

I Prepared for the ISMv2 Exam but going on the ISMv2 Instructor lead course. Did the practice exam online from the Education.emc.com site. Was getting good marks 92%.  Did the exam 1 week after the course, and got 86%.  You only need 65% to pass.

I do have 8+ Years of experinece with EMC Clarions, so I found it easy.  Only the new cloud stuff and Information Secuirty areas I dropped a few marks.

I suggest that you do the online practice exam now, this will then highlight if you are ready, especially if you have been using EMC kit.

Hmmm, if you already have such a high score, why do the ILT then?

Same here. I started in oct 2004 and in dec 2004 I passed the asociate exam. In feb '05 I passed the IE exam on Clariion and I think in March I did the 5 day ILT for my first exam and days later the 4 day ILT for the IE cert, which I alread got. But nevertheless both courses were very good since my experience at that time was 0, so I could use any help that I could get and both courses helped me wit that.

In feb '06 I passed for the IEe exam..... and after that TA on Clariion, IE and TA on Symmetrix and recently the IE on VNX and the TA will follow in Q3. I also need to get myself updated for VMAX.... Plenty to do

Hi

I did ask that myself But got the course as part as an agreement with my employer - got a EMC Subscription.

As my weak areas was the clould tech and Security - If I got a more questions on this subject areas in the real exam I might of been in trouble.
