Dell Poweredge 1950 - 64bit VMs slow performance

Hello all, My server is a Dell Poweredge 1950. I have installed the ESXi 5.5 Hypervisor. BIOS version is 2.7.0 VMs with 64bit OS installed and 8 CPU and 16GB memory provided have really high CPU performance when I start a program and performance is very slow. The same issue appears with XenServer Hypervisor installed. Only VMs with 32bit OS installed appear to have good performance. Could you please advice ? Thank you.

Good morning,

Does this occur even with just a single VM, or are there other VMs on the host? How many vCPU do you have allocated to the VM? Can you confirm that Vmware Tools is installed? Finally, what revision of ESXi 5.5 are you working with?

Hi Dylan,

This behavior is observed in every 64bit VM i create (8CPU & 16GB RAM provisioned).

ESXi 5.5 Build is 3248547.

VM tools are installed.

Since the issue reappears with different Hypervisor Installed, I suppose that this has to do with BIOS (2.7.0).

There isn't much in the BIOS to check. You can confirm that Virtualization Technology is enabled under "CPU Information." By default, it is turned off. You might consider testing with the latest Dell customized release of ESXi 5.5 to see if there is any behavioral change.
