Found PowerEdge R710 on side of road, what is it?
A while ago while on a walk I found a Dell PowerEdge on the side of the road and decided to take it home with me, I'm not kidding it was just whipped into the woods a mile up my road, and it appears to be in working order. I don't know anything about servers and I'd only consider myself slightly above average when it comes to computers and computer hardware, I mostly build gaming PC's for friends and tinker with older PC's, and I don't know anything about servers. I was hoping it would be possible for someone to give me a brief overview of what its supposed to be used for, how it works, and how to configure it. I have no idea what I would even want to use it for but seeing as I do play games with friends maybe I could host game servers off it if that's possible.
The R710 I found has 2 Intel Xeons, 72GB of RAM across 18 sticks, and 3 Dell 147GB SAS HDD's.

If it was outside exposed to the elements I would be very careful when connecting it to electricity. If there is water or any other conductive material in the system it could cause issues.
The main difference between the server and your gaming computer is audio and video. Our servers do not have audio controllers, and the graphics controller is very basic. Most dedicated game server applications are designed to run on servers as text-only applications or limited graphics applications. You can find documentation and downloads on the system support page.
