New Dell Branded drive reports as unsupported on R620
We had a drive fail in our 620, so I bought a Dell branded drive from a 3rd party to replace it. It has the same part number as the other 3 in the chassis - 0H8DVC, a Seagate Savvio 15K 300GB SAS drive. It shows up as unsupported in the RAID BIOS for the PERC H710p Mini, and I'm unable to create an array with it.
I'm starting to believe that this is a relabeled drive, but even if that were the case, didn't Dell change its mind about not allowing non-Dell drives in the array? I ran DSU, which updated BIOS, and Lifecycle, but the PERC firmware is latest, and it refused to update the firmware in the new drive to latest. I'm kind of running out of ideas here. Anything else to check?

Hello
We do not block non-certified drives on our PERCs. If the controller has communication issues with the drive it may put it into a blocked or unsupported state. You may have an issue with the slot, if that is the case it could also be why you had issues with the previous drive.
If you have an available slot then I suggest testing the drive in it. Also, check OpenManage Server Administrator to see what it reports on the drive.

This is not truthful.
We experienced the exact same thing with the same server and RAID controller. Since dell no longer sales replacements but much higher end 12G SAS we are forced to source a replacement drive elsewhere.
So we got the same exact HDD as the Dell however the FW model were different and everything else the same per serial number lookups on Seagate. Example Seagate Savvio ST9300653SS is detected as BLOCKED on the PERC H710P Mini Mono - but as soon as I put in the same model with Dell branding it works in the same slot.
Note viewing the Controller via iDrac does show the Hard drives with models and etc, so it is not a lack of communication on all 10 slots.

Early on when the H700 or H710 was released the firmware would lock out non-Dell drives. The first or second actual update to the firmware took this lock-out out of the firmware again as there was a lot of negative feedback about it.
Since then the only Dell equipment that blocks drives without Dell firmware are their SANs.
Just because a drive is the same Seagate model, doesn't make it Dell certified; it is a combination of the drive with the Dell firmware on that drive. If the drive is a retail version or one from another OEM (or sometimes even from another Dell SAN product line), it doesn't have the Dell firmware on it (for that specific device), and will be marked as unsupported or something like that.
There is no (easy) way to put Dell firmware on a drive that didn't already have a firmware from the same product line on it.
