R7515: PCIe card causes boot hang
I have a specialty PCIe card I need to use in my R7515, but when I install it, the server hangs at boot, even before I can access the BIOS setup screen, during the PCIe initialization phase (as seen in the text at the bottom of the screen). I tried re-seating the card, installing it in a different slot, with no luck. I see this error in the RS-232 console:
MultiThread DXE DebugLib - Index 0x00 APIC 0x00 => P00:C00:T00 => ASSERT u:\DellPkgs\DellChipsetPkgs\AmdRomePkg\Override\MdePkg\Library\BasePciCf8Lib\PciCf8Lib.c(1722): ((StartAddress & 0xFFF) + Size) <= 0x100
It works fine in a different system (a generic workstation). Any ideas?

Hello Nick A. Name,
I'm sorry to see the system has an issue adding your specialty PCIe card.
What generation PCIe card is it?
R7515 system supports PCI Express (PCIe) Gen3/Gen4 expansion cards
Also check the slot priority and see if it is being installed in the correct slot.
R7515 owner's manual: https://dell.to/39M8qEx
Slot Priority guide page 87
Please let me know if this helps. You could provide me the card details and I could look into it more.

@Dell -Charles R Here is the PCIe card in question:

It is a PCIe Gen2 card. Given that the PCIe standards are meant to be backwards-compatible, my intuition is that there is another cause. Because of a large onboard component, it can only fit in two slots, both of which I tried. I'll PM you the lspci output from another machine, if that helps.

Hello Nick A. Name,
Thank you for the update. What is the other machine it works in?
While PCIe standards may be backward compatible, Dell has not validated any Gen 2 cards for this server.
Check if you have exceeded the maximum number of cards:
R7515 owner's manual: https://dell.to/2DnEdQa
Slot Priority guide page 87 check Maximum number of cards
Also note Page 148 R7515 system supports PCI Express (PCIe) Gen3/Gen4 expansion cards.
If you remove the other PCIe cards and install just this card will it complete POST?
Please let me know how this test goes.

I don't have easy access to the machine at this time. I'm pretty certain I did try installing it by itself though and it did not work. Can we assume for the time being that this has does not alter the outcome -- what would be your next course of action?
The machine it worked in is a workstation with a Supermicro X9DAL motherboard.
