UPS Battery Backup for R710's (750w and 550w)
I've two R710 server (both with dual power supplys) and I want to put a UPS battery backup on each system. I've got an idea in mind and wanted to check with the community to see if it's valid.
Servers:
R710 750w x 2
R710 550w x 2
My plan is to get 2 UPS units that max out with 1500VA/900W.
For the 750w rig, connect one power supply to the first battery backup outlet and one to a non battery backup outlet on the first UPS
For the 550w rig, connect one power supply to the second battery backup outlet and one to a non battery backup outlet on the second UPS
Does that sound like an acceptable solution or is that not wise? I don't need both power supply's on backup but I would like to have one and just have them gracefully shutdown if we have an outage that lasts 1 or 2 minutes.

I don't think you have a bad plan here. 900w won't get you a whole lot of time, but it should be close to what you're looking for. My only concern is whether or not the battery would long enough for you to be notified and then act. I used a couple of 3rd party UPS selectors and those were estimating you at ~3 mins for the 750w unit.
Depending on the features of the UPS you select, you might want to consider writing a shutdown script for the server for use when AC input is lost. This way you can monitor the PSU unconnected to a UPS, and when power is lost to it, begin clean shut down procedures. But, that could also open you up to shut downs, if the PSU just fails. If the UPS has the capability to issue a soft shutdown command to the servers, then disregard this paragraph entirely.

Thanks Dylan. I apologize for the double post on this topic. My original post was marked as spam but it finally went through.
The CyberPower units have he ability to trigger a shutdown when power is lost. I believe I can trigger the shutdown after 30 or 60 sec. I don't want to trigger a shutdown immediately in case there is a power blip (which I experienced last week).
