VSAN setup Dell R820 with perc H710 controller

Hi Team,

I have some doubts on this.

As per VMware VSAN article,we need to disable the cache(Disable the storage controller cache, or set it to 100 percent read if disabling cache is not possible).I could not find out any options from my RAID controller.Where is the option listed to disable storage controller cache? Please help on this.

Thanks,

Manivel RR

Hi,

You disable the cache when you create the virtual disks by choosing no read ahead and write through cache options.

Hi Josh, Thank you for your input. Im using two SSD disks with raid0. In manage virtual disk section, I need to do this on each disk. Am I right?   Read cache===no read ahead; Write cache===write through cache. Please confirm. Thank you, Manivel RR

You set it on each virtual disk, so if the drives are each their own raid 0 then yes.

Hi Josh,

Thanks again.

Yes,We have 2 SSD disk.We have created RAID 0 on each disk.

Sorry to ask again. Is this correct ? If i do this,it will meet VSAN recommendations ? i.e (we need to disable the storage controller cache, or set it to 100 percent read if disabling cache is not possible)

disk cache shoule be enabled or disabled ?
