Determining Journal log space used when link is down
Folks,
Is there a way to determine how much journal log space is being used locally when a link to the DR site is down?
Normally when the link is up, you would click on the DR site policy and it will give you the protection window. So i had assumed that when the link is down, you would click on the production policy to give you the same info. However it is blank.
We are currently running RP 4.0.2

Hi there,
When the link is down, transfer is paused and production copy enters marking mode. In this mode, all changes are marked in a bitmap stored on the production journal. Since, this is a bitmap, capacity cannot ran out - changed data are just marked as being changed rather than being saved on the journal.

So does that mean that any changes made while the link is down will not be copied across once the link has been restored (just the latest change) as it is just tracking that the data has changed, not what the changes were?

Once the link comes up, all recorded changes will be replicated old to latest changes. to look how much journal space you have during an outage.Log into Recover Point Dashboard >>> System Limits >>>Groups
Once the current vault exceeds the limit it will require a brand new reseed.

That's correct, only the blocks which has been changed will be replicated to the target once the link is restored.

The production journal keeps track of changed blocks - it does not contain the actual data but a location of the changed block. Therefore, when the link is resumed, only marked blocks are read - which means that the latest copy of the data is transferred to the target.
