How to decrease time it takes to connect and take a bookmark?

We are using RecoverPoint to do real time backups of our Sybase database devices for DR purposes.

To do this and ensure data integrity we are quiescing the databases, then using ssh to connect to the RecoverPoint appliance and create a bookmark, then unquiescing the databases.

The problem is that the connection to RecoverPoint takes about 2 seconds over ssh while the taking the actual bookmark is less than 1 second. We really cannot afford to have our production database quiesced (in read only mode) for any longer than neccessary.

Does anyone know of a way we can open the ssh connection to RecoverPoint 1st, then quiesce the database and take a bookmark using the already opened connection, and then unquiesce the database. If possible this will reduce the time that the database is in read only mode by over 80%.

I have tried file redirection, named pipes, multiplexing, and expect but cannot seem to get any of them to do what I want.

Any suggestions on the best way to accomplish this?

Firstly, welcome to the forums, and above all, thank you for being an EMC customer.

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right.  Then search for and select: "RecoverPoint"
