RPA Best practices
I am setting a CRR environment. For the DR site I have one VNX2 storage with the following configuration.
5 x 100GB SSD (4+1)
50 x 300GB SAS (4+1)
56 x 1TB NL-SAS (6+2)
Total size if I created one pool with mixed protection type will be approximately 47TB
The RPA best practices guide recommended to have dedicated pool for the RPA journal. With 20% of the journal volume I will probably use up all the SAS drive just for RPA journal. I was struggling to whether we still need dedicate pool just for the Journal purpose or just one big pool to leverage all the spindle. For RPA best practices, journal must use thick LUNs and it should not be auto tier.

The journal is vey I/O intensive during distribution and inage access so I would definitely advocate a dedicated pool of disks to ensure there is no impact to non-journal I/O activity. I would ensue the pool is homogeneous, uses thick LUNs and does not use FAST.
