MirrorView: Write Intent Log
Hello.
I'm configuring MirrorView/A for 4 luns 30GB, but I've a problem:
The storage are two VNX5400 with storage pool in tiering.
Also I have a raidgroup NL SAS, the four vault disks SAS, hotspares SAS Flash,SAS,NL SAS and another single SAS disk free.
Where I can create the Write Intent Log?
Vault Disks are not recommended for performance problem on SPs
NL SAS are not recommended for lun performance.
I don't known the impact with WIL on a raidgroup with a single disk (i.e. not-redundance)
Also I need to configure MirrorView manually becouse the wizard try to create a storage group using the SAS hotspares available.
I did read that I can create WIL over storage pool using thick lun, but it seems to not work
I really need the WIL for Asynchronous Mirrorview?
Which benefit of using Mirrorview instead SANCopy?
Thanks
Matteo

Hi Matteo,
There's a few recommendations aside from what you have listed;
1 x 2GB LUN for each SP
RAID 1/0 recommended
No FAST Cache
I've always been led to believe that only RAID Groups are supported, so have always used them as opposed to a Pool.

...however in the article it states that VP LUNs are not supported, but a subsequent point ays that if a Pool is used, disable FAST Cache ?
SAN Copy and MirrorView are quite different products. What's your objective ?

I need that to backup a lun with RPO near to 0. So I have configured a mirrorview/S with an update interval of one minute.
I have read that WIL luns must to be in a raidgroup.
The private pool may be in a storagepool but is strongly discouraged, specially if it is tiering based or it has fastvp/fastcache or if it contains the source luns.
Finally I used for WIL and for private pool a raidgroup NLSAS raid5, 3 disks, that are the only disk available in the storage.

I don’t believe you need to set up WIL for Mirror/A
