Anybody have any details about the duel layer DVD+R drive that is now being offered on the XPS Laptop (part # 313-2549)?

shenba,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

According to my information, that part# is the “NEC ND-6100A 8X DVD+R/RW i.e the one that has been written about earlier in this thread.

You can also look up this drive’s specifications here

Corey,

Is this drive available for sale as a spare part? Or is it for sale only with a system purchase. I got my XPS laptop a little over a month ago and now see they have a duel layer drive available. Any details when it will be available?

The NEC ND-6100A that Dell is offering does have 2.4x DVD+R double-layer write capability. NEC also recently announced the ND-6500A (Available July 2004) which adds DVD-R/RW write capability. Hopefully Dell will replace the 6100A with that model.

I have Questions...The Inspiron 5150 support the DVD+R/RW 8x....so what is the manufacturer?, the drive is NEC 6100A......  this drive support DL Write and what are the max speeds for +R, +RW, +R DL...because in your product specifications say 8x +R, 2 +RW only  and the NEC web site say 8X/4X/2x DL.... Thanks for your help....  JS

Is this particular burner compatible with my Inspiron 8500...I could not find out on Dell's website...but on eBay, it is offered as a compatible hardware for my laptop...please advise. Thanks. Also, if you have the latest Flash firmware for it, please email it to me...i know the risk,etc...and will not hold you (as a Dell rep) liable in any way...just give me the heads up on the quirks or limitations...thanks much! Hung.
